Jakarta, Aktual.com – President Joko Widodo advised the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) newly Arcandra Tahar so that Indonesia could achieve energy sovereignty in a time not too long. The biggest challenge in realizing energy sovereignty is to build domestic capabilities based energy that is able to provide optimal benefits and worth sustainabilty.

“Energy sovereignty becomes a commitment that is often heard as a promise of every government and almost all the Ministers of Energy, but ironically repeated that commitment is seen only as the jargon and political commitment alone,” said Board Member of Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR) Commission VII Rofi Munawar in a statement in Jakarta, Monday (1/8).

According to him, after more than a decade Indonesia has become a net importer ‘in the oil and gas sector, in the long time national and coal commodities exported without improving the quality of value (non smelter) meaning. On the other hand, increasing national electrification is still stalled and running slow, due to ‘energy mix’ still dominated by fossil resources and power generation schemes are still stuck on the capacity / populist program.

“Every year the need for increased oil and gas, but production nationwide continued to decline and the greater importation. As long as no breakthrough creative, discovery of new wells and incentives technology, national energy sovereignty is still far from what was expected,” he said.

Rofi are also members of the working committee (Panja) gas is viewed, in general ‘road map’ development of new renewable energy (EBT) is still far from complete, but already enough regulations issued to accelerate implementation. It is better mainstreaming EBT program a top priority and best embodies the backbone of energy sovereignty.
