Jakarta, Aktual.com – President Joko Widodo open Association Congress of the Constitutional Court and Similar Institutions Asia (AACC) with the theme ‘Promotion and Protection of Constitutional Rights of Citizens’.

“Constitutional reform in Indonesia began in 1999 has put the Constitutional Court in a very strategic position. The Constitutional Court is obliged to guard and maintain the constitution,” said Jokowi in his opening remarks at BNDCC, Nusa Dua, Bali, on Thursday (11/8).

According to the President, the presence of the Constitutional Court is mandated to maintain harmony and consistency of the legal system of the country through the assessment and balancing to the branches of state power.

He also expressed his hope that the consistency of the laws with the Constitution continued to improve and quality.

“I believe this congress will produce a breakthrough for the development of democratic constitutionalism and constitutional civilization as well as for law enforcement welfare, which gives a sense of security and a sense of justice,” said Jokowi.

Third AACC Congress which was held from August 9 to 13, 2016 by 14 of the 16 member countries, namely Indonesia, Afghanistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the Philippines, Tajikistan, Turkey, South Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Russia, Thailand, Kyrgyzstan, and Myanmar , Meanwhile, Pakistan and Uzbekistan were unable to attend the event.

The first congress conducted by the association in South Korea in May 2012 and the second congress hosted in Turkey in April 2014.

In previous meetings, member countries agreed to establish a joint secretariat with three AACC member state will run a secretarial functions in different fields, namely Indonesia, South Korea and Turkey.
