Jakarta, Aktual.com – Government of the Republic of Indonesia would like the mechanism of traceability is applied in the various policies of those countries in order to enhance security cooperation fishery products globally.

“Traceability is a solution to overcome the problems of illegal fishing,” said Minister of Marine and Fisheries Susi Pudjiastuti when opening the Ministerial Meeting on Traceability of Fish and Fisheries Products in Jakarta, Wednesday (27/7).

Susi Minister reminded, traceability is important because the data from a number of international organizations stated number of fishing fleets now is 2-3 times greater than the capacity of fishing in global waters.

Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries invited delegates attending the event also to understand that the recovery of ocean resources is in the interest of all countries.

“As a government authority, we need to ensure that fishery products are safe and also on an ongoing basis,” he said.

Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (MMAF) of Indonesia, he said, also has implemented three pillars underlying the ministry’s operations, namely sovereignty, sustainability and prosperity.

As proclaimed, a number of developed markets in the world who became the target countries of export of Indonesian fishery products considered more selective and strongly encourage the enactment of “traceability” of fishery commodities.
